claiming back the 1% Skills Development Levy (SDL), is submitting a WSP/ATR worth it for a 28-person company?

We pay around R9,500 a month in SDL to SARS across our 28 staff in Gqeberha. Up to now we've written it off as just another tax because the SETA paperwork looked intimidating. How much of that 1% can you realistically claim back through a Mandatory Grant?

@shaun_bradfield At R9,500/month you are paying R114,000 a year in SDL! Submitting your Workplace Skills Plan (WSP) and Annual Training Report (ATR) by the 30 April deadline every year unlocks the 20% Mandatory Grant (roughly R22,800 cash back into your bank account quarterly), PLUS it makes you eligible for Discretionary Grants for learnerships and internships AND gives you your Skills Development points on your B-BBEE scorecard. Just make sure you appoint a registered SDF before February so your training invoices and attendance registers are in order.

@robyn_bryanston, Thanks @setasisters_za, hadn't connected the dots that the WSP/ATR submission is also required for our B-BBEE Skills Development scorecard points. Definitely not leaving R22k+ and BEE points on the table next April.
