Given that we’ve only been at it for 25 years, it’s perhaps not surprising that we live in a country that’s still grappling to fjavascript:void(0)ind ways of leveling the playing fields and creating a more inclusive, equal society for all our people. But how is it that racial tensions in the USA are still raw enough to stoke up feelings of anger and emotion that have literally rippled around the world?
Well, here’s a great example of how simple data can tell a powerful story: which in this case, sadly, is that Django is still in chains. Slavery may have been abolished more than 150 years ago, but in reality, their apartheid system only came to an end with the Civil Rights Act of 1968.
Which means they’ve only been in the ‘transformation game’ for 60 years. And To understand just how divided the US still is, all you have to do is look at the participation levels of African Americans in different areas of life, relative to their 13% of total population.
