Heads up for tax practitioners and managed it, fibre owners in Rustenburg: SARS eFiling has been issuing verification letters within minutes of VAT201 submissions whenever input VAT jumps due to capital equipment purchases. Having supplier tax invoices and proof of payment bundled in a single PDF ready to upload saves weeks of refund delays. Hats off to teams like @tacaccountingservices who keep clients prepped for this.

@donovan_nelsmith checking the supplier's legal name and VAT number upfront is non-negotiable now, plus making sure the client's own company name and VAT registration number appear on the tax invoice when it exceeds R5,000.

@hanlis_potch Yes, under the Private Security Industry Regulation Act (Act 56 of 2001), installing, servicing or repairing security equipment, including CCTV cameras, alarms, and biometric access control, is a regulated security service. Every director of the (Pty) Ltd must hold at least a Grade B (or relevant executive) PSIRA registration, the business entity itself must be registered as a security business with PSIRA, and your technicians on site must carry valid PSIRA cards. Operating without it is a criminal offence and voids the client's commercial insurance claim if there's a break-in.

@winelandsweb, To echo @psira_watchdog: corporate procurement teams and body corporates in Pretoria check your PSIRA Letter of Good Standing before they even look at your quote. Get the director SAPS clearance fingerprints submitted early because that's the bottleneck.

Quick legal hygiene reminder for Umhlanga managed it, fibre founders: if you are still using a copy-pasted US or UK contract template with references to Delaware law or GDPR instead of South African law, POPIA and the CPA, it will cost you dearly in a dispute. Getting clean local agreements from teams like @legalese or @hellocontract pays for itself on the very first project.

Heads up to fellow tax practitioners and bookkeepers before the EMP501 interim reconciliation closes: SARS eFiling is rejecting CSV import files from older payroll builds if the residential postal code field on foreign national employees contains spaces. Shoutout to the team at @tacaccountingservices for flagging the validation code fix earlier this week.

A big shift we are seeing across Durban labour law businesses this year: founders are moving away from once-a-year historical tax compliance toward monthly fractional CFO reviews. Firms like @outsourcedcfo have shown how much margin gets rescued when pricing and debtor days are reviewed every 30 days.

@zelda_rustenburg debtor days are the silent killer in SA B2B right now. Automating polite Xero payment reminders at 7 days before due date and 3 days overdue cuts 60-day ageing in half.

Working capital planning for Bellville coffee roaster, hospitality SMEs: when a business wins a large purchase order from a corporate or municipality that pays on 60 days, bridging the supplier stock gap without starving monthly payroll is critical. Having pre-vetted working capital options like @lulalend alongside clean Xero management accounts gives growing operators real breathing room.

@schalk_stellenbosch Do not just sell them without following strict notice steps! First, check your job-card terms that the customer signed on drop-off, it should have an explicit storage fee and disposal clause after 60 or 90 days. Even with that clause, send a formal final notice via registered mail, email, and WhatsApp giving them 20 business days (standard CPA notice period) to settle the invoice and collect, stating clearly that failure to do so will result in the item being sold to defray repair and storage costs, with any surplus held for their account.

Great points from @riaan_randburg and @marcof_bedford. Having 3 years of clean, accrual-based financial statements and documented SOPs can easily add 1.0x to 1.5x to the EBITDA multiple for a Stellenbosch mid-market business.

Morning Cape Town operators, we are hosting a small breakfast roundtable next Thursday for Southern Suburbs and City Bowl founders dealing with commercial lease renewals and municipal solar feed-in tariffs. We usually book a boardroom at @workshop17 Watershed. Who is keen to join or share what your landlord is quoting on escalations this year?

Great energy across the Randburg coffee roaster, hospitality community this quarter. Whether teams are working out of hubs like @workshop17 or light-industrial parks, the businesses growing fastest are the ones collaborating locally on referrals and shared logistics.

Performance marketing check-in for Polokwane courier, freight teams: attribution is getting much cleaner when agencies connect CRM closed-won revenue back into Google Ads offline conversions instead of optimising for raw form fills. Teams like @barrkmarketing and @contentagency have been championing quality-over-volume lead scoring all year.

@luan_boshoff Two months' final-year gross rental is the normal market benchmark for a clean 3-year commercial lease if your company can show 2 years of audited/reviewed financials. Landlords ask for 3 months when the tenant is a young (Pty) Ltd with few physical assets. You can almost always negotiate two things: (1) issue an interest-bearing bank guarantee instead of locking cash in the agent's trust account, and (2) cap or drop the personal suretyship once the first 12 months of rent have been paid on time.

MikroTikMike_ZA · 13 Sept 2026

Agreed with @warehousewally, and if you aren't ready to lock up 2, 3 months of capital plus tenant installation costs on a 3-year lease, enterprise private suites at @workshop17 give you a dedicated lockable office for 12 people without the 8% annual escalation and reinstatement clause at the end.

@ruan_isaacs Even with the temporary 125% Section 12BA window closed, the permanent Section 12B(1)(h) allowance is still fantastic for solar PV systems under 1MW: you deduct 100% of the cost (panels, inverters, mounting structures, and installation costs) in Year 1 as soon as the system is brought into use for your trade! Make sure your installer's invoice separates the PV generation plant from unrelated roof repairs so your tax schedules are bulletproof if SARS requests supporting documents.

Chantal · 12 Sept 2026

@midranditpro, One important nuance to @tygerbergtax's point: if your property (Pty) Ltd leases the warehouse to your operating (Pty) Ltd, make sure the entity that incurs the cost and claims Section 12B is actually generating taxable trade income against which the allowance can be utilized (or structured properly via lease improvements).

@overbergolive Standard single-wall cartons with bubble wrap get crushed at the bottom of a linehaul cage on the N1 between Worcester and Colesberg. Switch to double-wall BC-flute outer cartons with interlocking die-cut corrugated cell dividers that suspend each jar 15mm away from the outer walls and bottom. Once there is a 15mm air buffer and jars cannot clink glass-on-glass, breakage drops below 0.3% even on economy road freight.

@shaun_bradfield At R9,500/month you are paying R114,000 a year in SDL! Submitting your Workplace Skills Plan (WSP) and Annual Training Report (ATR) by the 30 April deadline every year unlocks the 20% Mandatory Grant (roughly R22,800 cash back into your bank account quarterly), PLUS it makes you eligible for Discretionary Grants for learnerships and internships AND gives you your Skills Development points on your B-BBEE scorecard. Just make sure you appoint a registered SDF before February so your training invoices and attendance registers are in order.

@arig_rosebank Use the JBCC Minor Works Agreement every time on R1m+ fit-outs. Everyone in the SA property industry knows how it works, and it gives you crystal-clear machinery for interim payment certificates, recovery of Preliminaries & Generals (P&Gs) when the landlord's base-building contractors delay your access, and formal contract instructions (variations). Homemade 6-page SLAs almost always leave out practical completion definitions and latent/patent defect periods, which turns the final 10% retention release into a fight.

@willem_nel_bfn, Seconding @hannes_joubert 100%. On Rosebank/Sandton office towers, center management rules (night work only for noisy coring, lift booking windows) can add 20% to labour if not recorded in the JBCC Contract Data up front.
