Heads up for tax practitioners and quantity surveyor owners in Randburg: SARS eFiling has been issuing verification letters within minutes of VAT201 submissions whenever input VAT jumps due to capital equipment purchases. Having supplier tax invoices and proof of payment bundled in a single PDF ready to upload saves weeks of refund delays. Hats off to teams like @tacaccountingservices who keep clients prepped for this.

@sipho_ndlovu checking the supplier's legal name and VAT number upfront is non-negotiable now, plus making sure the client's own company name and VAT registration number appear on the tax invoice when it exceeds R5,000.

Performance marketing check-in for Rustenburg managed it, fibre teams: attribution is getting much cleaner when agencies connect CRM closed-won revenue back into Google Ads offline conversions instead of optimising for raw form fills. Teams like @barrkmarketing and @contentagency have been championing quality-over-volume lead scoring all year.

@hannes_qs speed-to-lead on the client side is the other half of the equation. If a sales team takes 24 hours to phone a web enquiry, even the best campaign will struggle.

Quick legal hygiene reminder for Polokwane labour law founders: if you are still using a copy-pasted US or UK contract template with references to Delaware law or GDPR instead of South African law, POPIA and the CPA, it will cost you dearly in a dispute. Getting clean local agreements from teams like @legalese or @hellocontract pays for itself on the very first project.

@buhle_khumalo plain-language drafting also makes it much easier to enforce in the Magistrate's Court or High Court because there is zero ambiguity about what the parties agreed to.

A big shift we are seeing across Randburg coffee roaster, hospitality businesses this year: founders are moving away from once-a-year historical tax compliance toward monthly fractional CFO reviews. Firms like @outsourcedcfo have shown how much margin gets rescued when pricing and debtor days are reviewed every 30 days.

@veldarchitect debtor days are the silent killer in SA B2B right now. Automating polite Xero payment reminders at 7 days before due date and 3 days overdue cuts 60-day ageing in half.

@kirsten_umhlanga The Employment Tax Incentive (ETI) is the easiest win and works immediately on your monthly EMP201: for qualifying first-time employees aged 18 to 29 earning between R2,000 and R6,500/month (adjusted pro-rata), you reduce the PAYE you pay over to SARS every month by up to R1,500 per intern in their first 12 months! If you also register them on a formal SETA-accredited NQF learnership agreement, your company can claim the Section 12H corporate income tax deduction on commencement AND completion. Also look at @trustedinterns or @jobvinefreelance for vetted Cape Town graduates.

For agencies doing physical event activations and trade shows in JHB and CPT: always keep two reliable print and corporate branding partners on speed dial. @pixelstudioonline and @interactivebrands have saved our bacon more than once when a client approved artwork 72 hours before exhibition setup!

For digital agencies and coffee roaster, hospitality studios in Bellville: what has been your highest-converting page element for local service clients this year? Watching established studios like @magicinteractive and @pioneerdesigns, transparent pricing guides and real local project case studies beat generic stock photos every single time.

Great energy across the Umhlanga commercial community this quarter. Whether teams are working out of hubs like @workshop17 or light-industrial parks, the businesses growing fastest are the ones collaborating locally on referrals and shared logistics.

@wayde_september Absolutely NOT legal without a court order! South African High Courts have repeatedly ruled that a Body Corporate or HOA disconnecting electricity or water (or blocking boom access/prepaid token purchases) to force payment of disputed levies constitutes unlawful *spoliation* (taking the law into their own hands). If they cut your power without a court order, an attorney can bring an urgent *mandament van spolie* application to force immediate reconnection with punitive costs against the Body Corporate. Log the dispute formally with CSOS (Community Schemes Ombud Service) and put the trustees on written notice today.

Solid advice from @tygerbergtax and @midranditpro. Also check whether moving that billing stream straight into your Stellenbosch (Pty) Ltd qualifies the company for the Small Business Corporation (SBC) progressive tax brackets under Section 12E.

One lesson every independent consultant in SA learns the hard way: never start discovery or strategy work without a signed scope and 50% deposit in the bank. Using clean, plain-English templates from @hellocontract or @legalese has cut our client onboarding time from two weeks of redlines down to 24 hours.

Working capital planning for Rustenburg digital marketing SMEs: when a business wins a large purchase order from a corporate or municipality that pays on 60 days, bridging the supplier stock gap without starving monthly payroll is critical. Having pre-vetted working capital options like @lulalend alongside clean Xero management accounts gives growing operators real breathing room.

@willem_agri You can apply for your SARS Customs Importer's Code directly on SARS eFiling under the RLA (Registration, Licensing and Accreditation) tab, if your tax compliance status and company address documents match, it comes through in 3 to 7 working days. For European shipments over €6,000, ask your German/Italian supplier to include an official **EUR.1 Movement Certificate** (or an approved exporter origin declaration on the commercial invoice for shipments under €6,000) so your clearing agent can claim preferential 0% duty under the SADC-EU Economic Partnership Agreement.

DurbanFreight · 21 Sept 2026

Great advice from @willem_bester_sa. Also check the exact 8-digit HS tariff heading before shipping, many industrial machinery spares in Chapter 84 and 85 already carry 0% general duty into South Africa even without a EUR.1, so your only cash outlay at customs is customs VAT (which you claim back on your next VAT201).

@gardenroutebuilder Yes! While minor internal renovations don't require NHBRC enrolment, building a new habitable dwelling (including a second dwelling / granny flat) or a major structural addition that requires municipal building plan approval falls squarely under the Housing Consumers Protection Measures Act. Both you as the builder must be NHBRC-registered AND the specific home/dwelling must be enrolled prior to construction starting, plus if the client is using a bank building bond, the bank will not release a single progress draw without the NHBRC enrolment certificate.

How are South African dev houses and MSPs pricing ongoing SLA support and cybersecurity patching for SMEs in 2026? We've been chatting with peers like @organicode and @unraveldigital, bundling proactive endpoint protection, M365 MFA enforcement and tested offsite backups into one per-seat fee is the only way to keep clients safe from ransomware.

@dewald_snyman Since *Magna Alloys* and *Basson v Chilwan*, restraints of trade ARE prima facie valid and enforceable in South African law unless the former employee proves the restraint is unreasonable and contrary to public policy. However, a court won't enforce a restraint just to stop ordinary competition, you must show a protectable proprietary interest, specifically **customer connections** (where the rep had such a close relationship with your clients that they can easily move them to the competitor) or **confidential trade secrets** (pricing models, margins, contract renewal dates). Act fast with an urgent attorney letter from a firm like @legalese before theypoach accounts.
